CHOCOLAT BILLY

IAN SABOYA / ARMELLE MARCADÉ / MEHDI MICHAUX / JONI BURGIN guitares, basse, batterie, voix, claviers...

Groupe de 4 personnes (dont des membres d’Api Uiz et du collectif Les Potagers Natures à Bordeaux...), composant de manière collective des morceaux hirsutes. Guitares, basse, batterie, synthé, voix s’assemblent et se chevauchent pour une musique qui ne se décline pas avec prestance mais se vomit avec frénésie. Chocolat Billy, c’est une pop moderne expérimentale, joyeuse et anxieuse avec comme mode de construction, une puissante instabilité. Excellent groupe. Voilà c'est tout et ça fait du bien.

Invités au "The Ex Festival" pour une tournée de 5 dates aux Pays-Bas aux côtés de The Ex biensûr mais aussi de Thurston Moore, Fendika... Han Bennink... ça serait dommage de se passer d'une petite étape à Montreuil.

"When we do not bring a musician or band on tour with us, we sometimes get fully surprised and blown away by a French band that opens up for us. Once, in Bordeaux, it was Chocolat Billy. We actually knew the people already, because Bordeaux has a great underground scene and Ian of Chocolat Billy also plays in the super fantastic band called Api Uiz. The Ex has played many shows together with Api Uiz and we had invited them for our 33 1/3 Anniversary tour all over Europe and we even made them fly to Roskilde when we were programming a full day there on the Roskilde Festival in 2011.

So imagine a big old theatre with a wooden floor and stage and backstage a huge kitchen with a cook who makes a great meal on arrival and keeps on cooking during the concert and has even more food ready for us after the show. In that place Chocolat Billy is playing in front of the stage and about 500 people are gathered around and they play the most catchy and haunting melodies while erupting into chaos for ten seconds and coming back in some sort of musical order that none of the players expected before hand. It was one of those very normal days on a French tour where we were privileged to see Chocolat Billy.

Ian Saboya, Armelle Marcadé, Mehdi Michaux and Joni Burgin (all four on all instruments) are four insecurity experts who travel the world as Chocolat Billy. They play experimental pop : playful and anxious and built on ice and their songs are constructed with a strong instability. They must exist already for a few years but always create the impression they just formed a band." THE EX

Tetuzi Akiyama est un des dignes représentants de la scène Onkyo (avec Otomo Yoshihide, Toshimaru Nakamura, Taku Sugimoto entre autres). Difficile de cerner sa pratique et encore plus de l'enfermer dans un style ou une approche puisqu'on l'a on l'a tout autant écouté s'adonnant à un boogie furieusement minimal et répétitif qu'à un long déroulement acoustique, harmonique ou quasi silencieux. Ses dernières performances solo sont décrites comme un moment de beauté à réconcilier les amateurs d’indie folk et les puristes de la musique improvisée.
